Beetaloo Sub-basin

Beetaloo Sub-basin User Panel communiques

User panels have been established for each of the priority regions under the Geological and Bioregional Assessment Program. User panels will assist the program to understand the information needs of users in relation to shale and tight gas development, and how the program can best address these needs.

User panels comprise representatives from:

Beetaloo GBA Region

The Beetaloo GBA region in the Beetaloo Sub-basin will be the third region assessed as part of the Geological and Bioregional Assessment Program.

The Beetaloo Sub-basin lies south-east of Katherine in the Northern Territory and forms part of the greater McArthur Basin. The sub-basin spans an area of approximately 30,000 square kilometres and is one of the most prospective areas for shale gas in Australia, containing an estimated prospective resource of 178,200 PJ (petajoules) of gas, as well as having liquids potential.
